The Knot - Product Sketches

A pencil and paper is the oldest and the most powerful design tool ever. I love how ideas can be expressed through drawing—how I can dip in and out of various levels of fidelity without worrying about something being taken too literally. The pace of drawing is also so conducive to creativity and broad ideation.

I use drawing extensively in my creative process. It’s a way to explore and ponder ideas that feels comfortable and natural to me. When I need to present an idea and I don’t have much time, I just sketch it out and bring the drawings to my meeting. I also find that bringing a pencil and paper to conversations with my teammates helps me communicate with efficiency and clarity. Drawing is also an amazing window into someone’s mind to see how they think.

Here are some examples of drawings I made as part of my design process and some of the hifi UIs they ended up informing.
